Q) Pattern scanner is not returning the correct values. [Updated: May 26, 2004]
A) Quote.com does not return values immediately when a symbol is request. The consequence is for scanning, the scanning result may not be correct for the first few minutes. This is usually true for non-real time critical fields such as previous close.

This problem is greatly reduced since NeoTicker® 2.3.

Q) I use Windows NT/2000, Quote.com takes a long time to connect. [ Updated: Oct 30, 2001 ]
A) Check if you have administration privilege. Starting from version 2.3, NeoTicker® uses a new mechanism to check Quote.com server status. The mechanism requires administrator privilege. If you do not have administrator privilege, NeoTicker® will resort to an alternative mechanism which is slower.

General Operations

Q) How to copy group files and function windows? [Updated May 26, 2004]
A) Group files and function window files are very similar to standard document like Word document. To copy a function window send from a friend to you through email can be done in two ways.

First, if you are running NeoTicker®, just choose open of the specific function window. The open dialog will be displayed. Now just drag the function window file into the dialog file display area. The file will be copied. If you are not running NeoTicker®, and you wish to do a direct copy, then you will have to open the NeoTicker® directory. The NeoTicker® default installation directory is c:\Program Files\TickQuest\NeoTicker3. Once you opened the directory, you can drag and copy the function window file into the directory window.

Also, you can copy groups by export them to a package. From main window, choose Group>Export Package. Select the groups you want to export. Press Open. Then choose a filename for the package. The package is a single file that contains all the selected groups and their windows. To import a package file, choose Group>Import Package.

A) Press Esc to unselect everything. Right click to popup and choose Chart Manager. Switch to Data Setting Tab. Change the Trading Time to 9:30 AM - 4:15 PM.

Q) My chart is showing fewer bars than it is suppose to. [Updated May 26, 2005]
A) Your time zone setting could be different from the default one so all the bars have been shifted. There are two settings that affect your setting.

First, under Program>Server Setup>Time Zone tab, you can use either your PC time zone or the time zone of a specific city for charting. If you are in the US west coast but prefer using New York time when you trade, set the time zone to New York city. Second, your chart has trading time settings. You should set the trading time (using the time zone you've set above) to cover the actual trading time. The setting is in chart manager, under the Data Settings tab.

Q) Why is there a major difference between exponential moving averages shown in NeoTicker® and other charting packages?
A) NeoTicker®'s implementation of the exponential moving average is written according to the original definition based on classic technical analysis texts.

When the previous generation of technical analysis programs introduced in the 80s and 90s, some programmers decided to create their own version of exponential moving average and then almost every program came after that copy their code from these implementations without questions why the indicator is implemented that way. The claims were that their version "react faster" and "more responsive", etc.

If you prefer that version of exponential moving average, you can use the QC Exponential Moving Average.

Pattern Scanner Related

Q) I am using eSignal. It reported that I exceeded my symbol limit while scanning. [Updated: May 26, 2004]
A) NeoTicker® requires about 20 to 30 symbols out of you symbol limit per scanner to manager the scanning of massive amount of symbols. If you do not leave enough room in the symbol usage then you will encounter this problem.

For eSignal accounts with symbol limit of 100, you should use up to 50-60 symbols only in order to use the scanner.

For eSignal accounts with symbol limit of 500, you should use up to 430 - 440 symbols only, if you intend to use the scanner.

To reset the symbol count on the eSignal Data Manager, close all other programs connected to eSignal Data Manager, then close eSignal Data Manager manually. NeoTicker® will then automatically re-launch and reconnects to eSignal Data Manager.

Q) I see 0 for the following fields DnTick, DnTick%, DnVol, DnVol%, NetTick, NetVol, TikRatio, TikTrin, UpTick, Uptick%, UpVol, UpVol%, VolRatio. I use an Internet data feed. [Updated: May 26, 2004]
A) These fields require construction of real-time look up table to work. Turn on the real-time lookup table under Server Setup>Lookup DB tab.

You should also consider using the faster accumulated version of these fields instead: AccDnTick, AccDnTick%, AccDnVol, AccDnVol%, AccNetTick, AccNetVol, AccTikRatio, AccTikTrin, AccUpTick, AccUptick%, AccUpVol, AccUpVol%, AccVolRatio.

Abnormal behavior

Q) After a VBScript run time error, NeoTicker® shows a compilation error at the top line of the script. When running VBScript, NeoTicker® crash out during calculation on some scripts. VBScript exit with run time error, NeoTicker® chart behave strangely afterward. [Updated: July 15, 2004]
A) This means that you are using a older version of Microsoft scripting engine. When you install .NET framework, it could revert your scripting engine to an earlier less stable version.
